Enhancing Social and Economic Inclusion through Independent Living

An Erasmus + project (2017-2020) involves 5 participating countries across the EU. The project is coordinated by Malta Federation Organisations Persons with Disabilities. Vates Foundation is one of five partners.

The objective of this initiative is to create a set of modules which will assist persons with intellectual disability to engage in independent living. This will be achieved by focusing on the current need to enhance communication, literacy and numeracy skills of persons with intellectual disability. The target is to provide these persons the means to be fully integrated within the social and economic national frameworks and also to be able to realize their inherent rights for independent living.

Job Shadow Day - DuoDay

Job Shadow Day has been a success also in Finland. In year 2019 we had over 270 job shadowers and over 200 employers were involved. The day was considered to be a good way to increase knowledge of the abilibities people with disabilities have and also a good way to help young people to get familiar with working life.

Finland and other countries have decided not to organise Job Shadow Day in the spring 2020 due to coronavirus. However, we will participate in the European Disability Employment Week in November.
